2. Notes on rounding off to the nearest ******
(a) When asked to round a given number to nearest ******, e.g. nearest ten, go back one place value and examine the digit in that place value.
(b) if the digit in the next smaller place value is 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4, it will be a case of rounding down, i.e. no change for the digit in the tens place. 82 is 80 when rounded off to the nearest ten
(c) if the digit in the next smaller place value is 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9, it will be a case of rounding up, i.e. add 1 ten to the digit in the tens place. 86 is 90 when rounded off to the nearest 10.
